1st anniversary

生誕一周年

It’s now exactly one year since the Takochans came into
existence at Koharagi Chugakko Hinanjo. It was hot, but
everyone was involved: making Takochan heads, plaiding legs,
sorting donated buttons, twisting the message threads
(by Takopapas) and last but not least thinking of a message
which each specific Takochan was to carry into the
non-affected world…

小原木中学避難所で「小原木タコちゃん」が誕生してからちょうど一年が経ちました。
それはとても暑い時期、みんなが関わって生まれてきたのでした。
ある人は頭を作ったり、足を編んだり、寄付として贈られてきたボタンを整理したり、またあるタコパパはメッセージカード用の糸をより合わせたり。
そしてタコちゃんにつけるメッセージカードのコメントを考えて。。。

One year later, still more than 10 people are involved in
the Takochan project. The Takochans are still looking cute
but got more sturdy. Donated buttons are still appreciated.
The threads are now in the hands of Takomamas because the
Takopapas are out on the sea again!
The messages turned into a sort of new literature genre of
highest standards.
They reflect the whole transition from the initial
desperation after the disaster until now with all the hopes
and ups and downs etc.
The message is the heart of the Takochan!!!
The Takochan is not a ‘thing’ it is the messenger
between the disaster affected area and the non-affected world.

一年経った今でも、10人以上の人々がタコちゃんプロジェクトに関わっています。
タコちゃんたちの可愛らしさはそのままに、でも一年前に比べて作りはずっと丈夫になりました。目などになるボタンの寄付は、今でも大歓迎ですよ。
タコパパたちは現在、魚を求めて大海原に戻っていったので、紐作りはタコママたちの仕事になりました。
タコちゃんのメッセージは今や新しいジャンルの文学になったと言っても過言ではないでしょう。
被災当初の絶望から現在までの希望や浮き沈み、全ての推移がこのメッセージに反映されています。
メッセージはタコちゃんの“心”なんです。タコちゃんは単なる“モノ”ではなく、被災地と他の地域をつなぐ架け橋なのです。

And the Takochans stand for a new beginning, the start of
reconstruction not only of new dwellings but also of a new
society emerging from the tsunami debris, standing for equality,
and harmony.
As you all know, a Takochan cannot be ‘bought’ in the usual
sense. They get adopted from people who want to join and
support this process and concept. The handling fee
for adopting one Takochan is therefore regardless of size,
color or looks 1000 yen.
復興のシンボルであるタコちゃんは、建物の再建のシンボルであるだけではなく、被災地に現れる新たな社会の象徴であり、平等、調和のシンボルなのです。
皆さん既にご存知のように、タコちゃんはいわゆる「販売」は行っておりません。このタコちゃんプロジェクトに共感してくださる方への「養子縁組」、もしくは「嫁入り」と表現させて頂いております。それゆえ、「養子縁組仲介料」はサイズ、色や外見（人種・タコ種？）にかかわらず、すべて一律1,000円としています。

Thousands of Takochans are out in the world now and each of
them is saying: Thank you, thank you, thank you all for
supporting us!!!
Special thanks go to the German Tutto company for sponsoring
the Takochan wool, to all the people all over the world for
sending us so many cute buttons, and to everyone who was
involved in boosting the spreading of the Takochans!
We will try our best to show we have been worthwhile to receive
all this help and attention!
